The US wants to...buy Greenland.

What?

When George W. was in office, I contemplated finding out about moving to another country. But I don't think anywhere's safe right now, and I need to stay right where I am and vote.

I've gone beyond being humiliated for my country. Now I'm just sort of punch-drunk.

The part where *he* told *Israel* to bar *two US Congresswomen* took my cake for yesterday, but that one was close!

They offered to this in the 1940s and Denmark said no. I can't imagine them saying yes now, with the offshore resource claims (oil and fisheries) and the EU behind them if the US tries bullying.

Nor can I imagine the people of Greenland liking the idea: the US may well have forgotten that "semi-autonomous region within the Kingdom of Denmark" doesn't equal quasi-colony. On the other hand, in 2019asking "what were they thinking?" does lead to "were they thinking? proably not."

(This is something I have at my fingertips because it was a subject of the book I just finished editing--mostly why Denmark would value Greenland, but also in passing that the US tried to buy it back before anyone was thinking in terms of offshore drilling.)
