Augh.

Today, at 4:45, I was going to be seeing my 4-year-old client - in fact, the first four-year-old I've ever had for individual counseling* - for the first time.

Today, at 4:42, the power to my entire work building went out. After 10 minutes, we were told we needed to clear everyone out.

I found him and his mom in the waiting room and got to say hello and tell him how bummed I was because I'd been looking forward to playing with him and had gotten my elephant out and had everything ready, but my office was really dark, so we were going to have to wait until next week.

(He had an attack of the shyer-than-I-really-ams and hid behind his mother's leg, until he got distracted by something in the waiting room and took off without a backward glance, leaving me just grinning behind him.)

I'll see them next week and it will be fine, but...damn.

* Well, partly individual counseling. A lot of counseling a 4-year-old is getting to know the 4-year-old in order better to counsel their parent(s). But he's got stuff going on, and play therapy may help him sort through some of it in order to be able to function better in the rest of his life. So there's that, too.
